TRUCKEE, Calif. (August 24, 2011) –The Truckee Donner Public Utility District board at their recent meeting unanimously voted to appoint Laura Ferree as the replacement for director John Hillstrom. Ferree’s term will run until November 2012 at which point the seat will be up for election.

“It was clear Laura Ferree’s presentation impressed the board,” said Jeff Bender, president of the TDPUD board. “I believe Ms. Ferree’s diverse background including her education and communication skills will serve our rate payers well.”

She has worked as a police officer for the City of Alexandria, Virginia, clerked for the Honorable Joyce Hens Green of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, and worked in private law firms.

She is also a member of the Queen of Hearts Fund of the Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation and has worked for the Family Resource Center of Truckee.

“I believe strongly in public service and understand the importance of the TDPUD’s rates and policies to our community’s future,” said Laura Ferree. “I take seriously my responsibility to listen and respond to the public and ensure that the TDPUD continues to be run in a cost-effective, efficient, and environmentally sound manner.”

Ferree lives in Truckee with her husband, two teenagers, and two rescue dogs. When not working or with her family, she likes to ride her road bike and read fiction. Ferree has traveled extensively in Latin America and speaks Spanish.
