Truckee Donner PUD Gives Away FREE LEDs to Customers

Exchange up to three strands of old, incandescent holiday lights for LEDs and also pick up 16 LED specialty bulbs

Truckee, Calif. (Nov. 16, 2017) – With our first atmospheric river this year and temperatures dropping, the holiday season is upon us and Truckee Donner PUD will again swap out old, incandescent holiday lights for free energy efficient LED (light emitting diode) holiday lights for TDPUD customers. The LED holiday light exchange begins Nov. 20 at 8 a.m. and will continue while supplies last during regular business hours at the TDPUD office located at 11570 Donner Pass Road.

Customers are asked to bring in a copy of their current TDPUD electric bill along with up to three strands of old incandescent holiday lights. The TDPUD will replace them with your choice of up to 60 feet of white or multicolor LED lights. These energy-efficient holiday lights can save between 80-98 percent on energy costs versus the old-style incandescent lights. They also look great.

Part of the TDPUD’s mandate is to reduce energy consumption, and the LED holiday lights help to reach that goal.

“Truckee Donner PUD is delivering holiday spirit and savings in the form of energy efficient LED technology,” said program manager Lauren Schaake-Hudson. “Since the start of this energy efficiency program, we have given out enough holiday lights to stretch almost from Truckee to South Lake Tahoe.”

While in the office, eligible customers can also receive other free LED light bulbs for their home (warm white, dimmable, five types) and information on the district’s energy and water savings programs.
