TDPUD Gives Away FREE Energy-Saving LED Holiday Lights to Customers

TRUCKEE, Calif. (November 12, 2012) – With snow falling and temperatures dropping, the holiday season is upon us. Many people will soon be pulling out the holiday decoration boxes and stringing up the holiday lights. This year the Truckee Donner Public Utility District will again swap out old holiday lights for free energy efficient LED (light emitting diode) holiday lights at the Truckee Donner Public Utility District. The swap-out begins on Monday, November 26 at the TDPUD office located at 11570 Donner Pass Road.

Customers are asked to bring in a copy of their TDPUD electric bill along with up to three strands of old incandescent holiday lights and the TDPUD will replace them with your choice of up to three 20 ft. white or multicolor LED lights. These energy-efficient holiday lights save up to 98 percent on energy costs versus the old-style incandescent lights.

Part of the TDPUD’s mandate is to reduce energy consumption, and the LED holiday lights help to reach that goal. “Our customers have really embraced this program and they are saving energy and money while lighting up the holiday spirit.” says general manager Michael Holley, “LED lighting technology is becoming increasingly important as this next generation of lighting moves into the market.”

This year’s LED Holiday Light Exchange program also includes other free light bulbs (CFL’s) and information on the district’s energy and water savings programs. Customers should visit the TDPUD soon; the LED Holiday Light Exchange program is only available while supplies last.
