NV Energy Transmission Outages Impacting TDPUD Customers

Truckee, Calif. (June 13, 2019) – Truckee Donner Public Utility District (TDPUD) does not generate electric power locally and relies on NV Energy for transmission services.  Over the last two months, there has been a decline in NV Energy transmission reliability resulting in numerous intermittent and longer-term electric outages; primarily in Tahoe Donner and Donner Lake but also impacting Glenshire and other areas.

Power outages are a fact of life and all electric systems, including TDPUD and NV Energy, experience weather and equipment related outages.  Given the unusual number of recent outages, however, TDPUD’s management has been seeking a solution from NV Energy regarding the decline in reliability.  NV Energy has work planned during the last two weeks of July, which should address the equipment related transmission outages.

“TDPUD takes electric system reliability very seriously and we have invested significant resources to prevent power outages,” said Joe Horvath, TDPUD electric utility director. “We are working very closely with NV Energy to help them implement a solution as soon as possible.”

Power outages do happen and we all need to be prepared.  If you have questions about the causes of your power outages, call TDPUD at 530-587-3896 during regular business hours.  For current outage information, visit tdpud.org and click the “outages” button on the homepage.
