TDPUD Announces New General Manager

Rem Scherzinger to lead Truckee’s electric and water utility.

Truckee, Calif. (June 5, 2020) – Truckee Donner Public Utility District (TDPUD) announced Friday, May 29th, the hiring of Rem Scherzinger as the new general manager. TDPUD had been actively involved in the hiring process for the past several months. The Board participated in several workshops to prepare for interviews using the comprehensive hard and cultural skill set questions that were prioritized based on community and employee feedback. This was a sophisticated, metric-based, and exhaustive process.

Some interesting facts:

  • Final applicant count for our General Manager was 102.
  • Applicants were from California, Nevada, 25 other states, Puerto Rico, and India.
  • The pool was extremely competitive
  • In-state candidates comprised 47.1% of the pool
  • 11.2% of applicants were women and 88.8% of applicants were men

Case studies were used in the interview process. Every candidate was asked the same 48 hard skill set questions and 41 cultural skill set questions. In addition, all candidates participated in a proctored case study process. They were given one hour to prepare and one hour to present their analysis and recommendations based on the three case study questions. After this lengthy process, the Board selected Rem Scherzinger to be the new general manager.

Rem Scherzinger has a BS degree from California Polytechnic University in Pomona as a Civil Engineer. He also has an MBA focused on financial management. Scherzinger brings over 20 years of experience serving in both water, wastewater and electric utilities. Most currently he served as the General Manager/CEO of the Nevada Irrigation District He serves on several industry boards including: Region 3 Association of Water Agencies (ACWA) and CABY Integrated Water Management Joint Powers Authority of which he serves as President. Scherzinger is one of 53 people in California to possess a certified special district managers certificate from the California Special Districts Association. He is a consummate leader and understands the complexity of the utility business with his in depth focus on collaboration and an emphasis on both problem solving and decision making. He is involved at the local, state, and national level and will bring exceptional expertise to our district.

Rem Scherzinger is quoted,” I am very excited to become actively involved in the Truckee community. This opportunity to work with TDPUD staff and Board to help define the next generation of water and power while serving the needs of the Truckee community is a dream.” His wife and two daughters also look forward to calling Truckee their “Basecamp for a Big Life” while being actively involved in the community.

Scherzinger will start in July.
