TDPUD BOARD APPROVES 2-YEAR BUDGET WITH NO WATER OR ELECTRIC RATE INCREASES
TRUCKEE, Calif. (November 17, 2011) – The Truckee Donner Public Utility District (TDPUD) board at their November 16 meeting unanimously approved a 2-year budget covering 2012 and 2013. The approved budget has no water or electric rate increases, continues to invest in renewable resources, infrastructure, and reserves, and trims costs.
The approval of the budget was the culmination of a series of board workshops and a public hearing on the 2012-2013 budgets. The process also included a presentation on the TDPUD’s 10-year financial master plan which, in addition to no rate increases in 2012 and 2013, projects operating the TDPUD below the rate of inflation while improving the District’s overall financial position, operations, system reliability, and customer service.
“The ultimate measure of performance for any utility is rates,” said Jeff Bender, president of the TDPUD board of directors. “Being able to keep rates stable and competitive while improving the value we offer our customers is a real testament to all involved.”
The TDPUD’s strong performance can be measured directly by low rates, reduced operating budgets and head-count, increased reserves, improved Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS), effective energy efficiency programs, and increased customer satisfaction. The public process to adopt the new budget included reports on all of these performance factors. These results have been independently verified by the TDPUD’s most recent financial audit which was very complimentary of the TDPUD’s financial results and management team.
“I have been on the TDPUD board for a long time and have rarely seen such strong financial performance and efficient operations,” said Joe Aguera, TDPUD board member. “It is really important that we help our customers save money while delivering reliable and high quality water and power services.”
