The Truckee Donner Public Utility District uses industry-standard Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) electric meters, which are the most efficient and cost-effective electric meters available today.

These  meters give customers secure access to their accounts and the ability to understand their electric usage, allowing for opportunities for conservation and energy efficiency. AMI meters also increase reliability,   provide more timely usage data, and improve response time to electric outages. 

The Truckee Donner Public Utility District has requirements for homeowners who choose to surround their meter panel with a decorative enclosure or recess their meter panel in a wall.  Following these requirements will ensure that the enclosure has the proper clearance to the TDPUD's meter and can be safely read and serviced by District staff.  Refer to pages 5 & 6 of the Electric Construction Standards for Decorative enclosure and recessed enclosure requirements.

There is an Opt-Out program, participation is limited to residential customers only. Net meter accounts and seasonal rentals are excluded from the program.
